#1 – Trick or treat at home
Keep safe by trick or treating at home. Find fun activities to do with the children at home, for example, making costumes, carving pumpkins or watch a Halloween movie for children.
#2 – Eyes on the prize
When trick or treating opt for a small prize to give out to children instead of candy like a transfer tattoo or fake spider, these are a good alternative to fruit as the children still feel like they received a treat.
#3 – Fuel up first
Before going out trick or treating make sure the children have a wholesome filling meal, this will make them less likely to want treats when they are out.
#4 – Drink more water
If you or the children do indulge in something sweet make sure you drink plenty of water and stay away from carbonated beverages which will add to the sugar intake.
#5 – Trade in treats
To eliminate the candy intake altogether allow children to trade all their candy for a toy or game they have had their eye on.
